The electronics ministry aims to recognize and support innovators providing digital solutions under six broad themes

As a major initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), innovators under six themes—ed-tech, health-tech, agri-tech, fin-tech, secured digital infrastructure, and circular economy—are set to be recognized and supported under the G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (G20-DIA). As a part of this initiative, MeitY Startup Hub is launching an application for Indian innovators/startups with digital solutions to solve global challenges and scale the solutions in the above-said six sectors. It is inviting participation till 31st March 2023. Interested people can apply here.

The official note mentioned that startups from G20 nations along with 9 invited guest nations across these 6 sectors will participate in this global program in Bangalore. “A total of 174 startups will be engaged, celebrated, showcased, and supported under this program from around the world,” it said. The 3-day summit in August 2023 will conduct market access, corporate connect, investor connect, skilling, and networking sessions for 174 selected startups and hundreds of investors and stakeholders. Notably, this summit will be held on the sidelines of the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) meeting.

It is learnt that the three-day event will enable innovators to pitch their solutions to a diversified jury committee which would have academia, corporates, mentors, ministries, and investors recognized under each theme. This jury would choose the top 3 digital innovations in each category that will be awarded.

Interestingly, the presidency under India will also allow the invited member countries not a part of G20 to provide the problem statements and digital innovations solving them. The ministry believes that startup products enabled through digital public goods infrastructure can create a global population-scale impact and reduce the digital divide and enable sustainable, and inclusive techno-socio-economic development.
