Xiaomi Starts Local Manufacturing of Mi LED TVs to boost Make in India

Xiaomi plans to locally assemble the Mi LED TVs and targets a production capacity of 100,000 Mi LED TVs per month by the first quarter of 2019

Smartphones producer, Xiaomi has kickstarted its smart Mi LED TV manufacturing in partnership with Dixon Technologies in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The move is a step towards its commitment to India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India, said, “We are proud to take the next step with the support of Andhra Pradesh. After a successful smartphone journey, we are beginning a new chapter with Mi LED TV manufacturing in India.” The MD added that with Xiaomi’s increased focus on local manufacturing, it would be able to increase the supply and reach out to the Mi Fans.

Manufacturing plant

The new Mi LED TV manufacturing plant is built in Tirupati spanning across 32 acres. The factory, along with Dixon Technologies has employed over 850 employees. It aims at a production capacity of 100,000 Mi LED TVs per month by the first quarter of 2019. Xiaomi will be assembling the Mi LED Smart TV 4A 80cm (32-inch) and Mi LED Smart TV 4A 180cm (43-inch) initially.

AP ease of doing business

Welcoming the smartphone brand, Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, said that Xiaomi, along with the other leading electronics players in the state would help present Andhra Pradesh as an example of transparent governance and seamless execution in setting up of projects. He said, “Andhra Pradesh continues to lead when it comes to ease of doing business.” He said that the state’s policies were the major attraction for investors, especially the blue-chip manufacturers across the world.

The chief minister also shared his vision of making Tirupati an IT Hub by offering a one-stop solution for leading electronics players. Applauding the decision, IT minister, Nara Lokesh expressed his belief that Xiaomi’s manufacturing unit would further advance the state’s aim of making it the electronics hub in the future.

Dixon technologies chairman, Sunil Vachani said that the partnership would benefit the consumers immensely with Dixon’s manufacturing experience and Xiaomi’s innovative solutions.

 Make in India

Xiaomi had earlier announced about its mobile manufacturing plans in India to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Currently, it has six smartphone manufacturing plants that are maintained in partnership with Foxconn and Hipad Technologies across Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu and Noida.
