Western Digital Announces 15TB HDD and Launches 400GB microSD card

Boasting fast read and write speeds, this world’s biggest capacity 15TB HDD is targeted at tasks requiring high storage spaces

Western Digital, a USA based computer hardware maker announced the launch of its latest 15TB HDD. Christened Ultrastar Western Digital DC HC620 host-managed SMR HDD, the latest HDD will be the biggest capacity hard drive to be available for use in the commercial market.

Boasting fast read and write speeds, this world’s biggest capacity 15TB HDD is targeted at tasks requiring high storage spaces. The company has also launched its SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card witj 400GB storage capacity in India.

A tweet made through the official Western Digital Twitter handle said, “At 15TB, our new Ultrastar HDD brings a lot to the data-center, particularly for 24/7 workloads of sequentialised writes and random reads.”

Western Digital DC HC620 host-managed SMR HDD specs

The latest addition to Western Digital’s biggest storage HDD drives line-up, the DC HC620 SMR HDD offers 4.16ms average latency and rotational speed of 7200RPM. The SAS based DC HC620 SMR HDD gets a 1200MBps rate as maximum while the SATA variant will offer a maximum transfer rate of 600MBps between interfaces.

Western digital has not revealed the pricing yet but has mentioned that their new 15TB HDD will offer additional 60TB per 4U of rack space in comparison to previous 14TB HDDs.

SanDisk Extreme 400GB microSD card specifications

Boasting maximum write and read speeds of up to 160 MBps and 90MBps respectively, the latest SanDisk Extreme 400GB microSD packs a mammoth 400GB storage capacity. The company claims that their proprietary 3D NAND technology will help SanDisk Extreme 400GB microSD deliver faster transfer speeds.

Showcased at the MWC 2018 first, this microSD card is primarily targeted towards smartphone users. Western Digital said that the new card is water, shock, X-ray and temperature proof.

Priced at Rs 22,000 in India, Western Digital is marketing the SanDisk Extreme 400GB microSD card as 4K HDR mobile video recording compatible.
