  • The phase-2 certification means that Trontek’s lithium-ion batteries meet stringent safety requirements for battery safety, reliability, and performance.
  •  Trontek’s lithium-phosphate (LFP) batteries offer 1.5 kWh to 3.64 kWh capacity for electric two-wheelers, and 5.35 kWh to 10.7 kWh for electric three-wheelers.

Indian battery maker, Trontek’s lithium-phosphate batteries have cleared phase-2 AIS certification (Automotive Industry Standards) making it the first Indian company to have its range of LFP and nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries achieve AIS-certification in both phases.

The phase-2 certification means that Trontek’s lithium-ion batteries now meet stringent safety requirements for battery safety, reliability, and performance, in compliance with the EV battery standards set by MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) in September last year. These safety requirements include thermal protection, audio-visual warning systems and IPX7, including a smart battery management system and smart controller area network-enabled (CAN) chargers.

Founder and CEO of Trontek, Samrath Kochar said, “It is a major milestone for us as we become one of the first to achieve the AIS-156 certification for our entire range of electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler batteries, and also have approval for our LFP battery chemistry.”

At present, Trontek’s NMC battery range is available up to 3.6KWh capacity for electric two-wheelers, while LFP batteries offer 1.5 kWh to 3.64 kWh capacity for electric two-wheelers, and 5.35 kWh to 10.7 kWh for electric three-wheelers.

India’s EV market is predicted to grow to a $7.09 billion opportunity by 2025. Commenting on the support offered by the government, Kochar added, “The government has been persistent in promoting ease of manufacturing and encouraging innovation in the battery manufacturing segment, be it in terms of providing subsidies or even amending the EV battery testing standards and implementing them.”

In the company statement, Trontek said its NMC batteries have completed over 50,000 km of on-road testing validation for electric two-wheelers, and LFP batteries have completed 75,000km for electric two- and three-wheelers.
