Monday, September 30, 2013:Â Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Company (TPC), is working to develop a solar project with the installed capacity of 28.8 MW. This project being developed in the Satara district of Maharashtra is one of the largest photovoltaic based solar power plants of the company.
The plant is reportedly being developed over 130 acres of land, with the utilisation of the state of the art technology in photovoltaic based solar generation. The distribution arm of Tata Power, christened as Tata Power-Distribution, has inked a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 25 years for purchasing power from this solar plant. The agreement will help in meeting its solar renewable purchase obligations.
The solar power generated from this plant will be routed through Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Limited (MSETCL)’s network. Commenting on the effort, Anil Sardana, managing director, TPC, told TOI, “Tata Power is committed to generating 20-25 per cent of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources and is proud to be developing one of the largest solar projects in the country. TPC strives to reduce its carbon footprint.”
