  • Gujarat’s first Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) plant facility will be inaugurated in 2024
  • State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) has granted 91 industrial investment proposals worth INR 7,659.52 crore

Tata Group has announced a plan to invest Rs 200 crore for a semiconductor testing and packing unit at Narasapura in Kolar district, Karnataka.

The company has already taken over Wistron’s iPhone manufacturing unit to set up an Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) plant. This plant will be beneficial for employment purposes also.

The new semiconductor plant by Tata will pave India’s way towards producing silicon processors and other semiconductor parts. India will also inaugurate its first ATMP facility in Gujarat, which the US-based semiconductor, Micron Technology, will handle. These new facilities will fabricate processors from raw silicon wafers. It will also conduct testing of experimental chipsets and research new semiconductor technology. The ATMP facility in Gujarat is expected to open in 2024, while the Tata Group ATMP plant will start operations in the next 3 to 4 years.

The State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) has granted approval to 91 industrial investment proposals worth INR 7,659.52 crore, potentially generating 18,146 jobs within the state.

“They’ll build an ATMP unit in Kolar, which will be a smaller facility,” Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of Industries and Commerce, shared with a news portal.

ATMP plays a significant role in the semiconductor industry’s ecosystem. Following the manufacturing of wafers at wafer fabs/foundries, ATMP facilities process wafers into individual chips, package them and conduct testing to prepare them for use in electronic devices.
