Skipper Bags Order Worth Rs 150 Cr to Install 2500 Telecom Towers

Skipper said that it has been associated with Ramboll of Denmark for serving the telecommunication tower market in India as well as globally

Skipper Ltd, a leading Indian manufacturer of transmission and distribution structures – towers and poles, announced that it has bagged orders of more than Rs 150 crore from three leading telecom companies for upgrading and installing 2500 telecom towers.

Skipper, the Kolkata-based power transmission & distribution, telecom and railways structure company, works with all the major telecommunication companies and has secured these orders from Reliance Jio, Bharti Infratel and American Tower Co.

Need for telecom infrastructure

Commenting on the development, Devesh Bansal, Director at Skipper Ltd, said, “Securing fresh new orders of over Rs 150 crore for 2500 towers from various telecom operators. Bulk of these would be adding to the telecom infrastructure of Eastern India.”

Bansal further said, “Considering the demand, it is estimated that India will need 1,00,000 telecom towers to cater to the rising data demand by 2020, which will greatly benefit the tower manufacturing companies like Skipper. A stronger telecom infrastructure is needed ahead of 5G deployment in India.”

India is the second largest telecom market in the world. The country has around 1.19 billion subscribers as of September 2018.

According to a data by IBEF, revenues from the telecom equipment sector in India are likely to grow to US$ 26.38 billion by 2020. The internet subscribers in the country is estimated to increase two-fold to 829 million by 2021 and the overall IP traffic is likely to grow a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30 per cent by 2021.

Overseas presence

Skipper Ltd has also entered into the Latin American market by securing an order of around US$ 5 million for telecom towers.

The company said that it has been associated with Ramboll of Denmark – the leading tower design company in the world, for serving the telecommunication tower market in India as well as globally.
