Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a company of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has issued a statement mentioning that the request for selection (RfS) document for establishing of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects of 2.5 GW in the region of Kargil will be issued by December 31, this year.

Previously, the SECI had announced that the RfS is expected to be issued by December 15.

The 2.5 GW capacity projects come under the Phase-I of the Government’s aim to set up 23 GW capacity in the Leh and Kargil regions, in the Ladakh district of Jammu & Kashmir.

Last month, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced its plans for implementing 23 GW of ultra-mega solar projects in the Kargil and Leh regions.

The grid-connected solar PV projects are planned to be established in the Zangla region in Kargil and in the Pang region in Leh. In addition, a 2,500 MW capacity grid-connected solar PV project is planned to be set up in New Wanpoh region and another 5,000 MW project in Hisar.

Scope of work

SECI would issue a single tender for selecting the project developer. Apart from establishing the grid-connected solar PV projects, the scope of work includes execution of the complete power evacuation infrastructure including substations as well as transmission lines.

This project will be the country’s biggest tender till now in terms of capacity envisioned. In December last year, SECI had asked for Expression of Interest (EoI) from potential developers for setting up of floating solar PV projects of 10 GW capacity in a phased manner in the coming three years.
