Monday, July 14, 2014: Rakesh Garg has been appointed as the new secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The announcement of his appointment was made on Sunday, 13 July. Garg is currently serving as the principal secretary in Uttar Pradesh. He is the IAS from 1980 batch.
The announcement of Garg’s appointment was made within two weeks after MF Farooqui retired from the post of DoT secretary. After Farooqui’s exit, Ram Sewak Sharma, who is the secretary of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, was made the in-charge of the DoT for three months or till the appointment of the new secretary, whichever is earlier.
In his Central deputation, Garg has served as the additional secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and joint secretary at the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
