Nokia Signs 2 Bn Euro Worth of Agreements with 3 Chinese Operators

As per agreements, Finnish multinational will deploy services and technologies to enhance the performance in mobile and fixed broadband networks across China

Finnish telecommunication and consumer electronics company Nokia has entered into three different frame agreements with China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom totaling more than 2 billion euro.

As per agreements, Finnish multinational will deploy services and technologies to enhance the performance in mobile and fixed broadband networks across China in order to meet the ever-increasing demand as network operators are moving towards 5G, the company said in a statement.

Leverage Nokia’s services

The demand for internet continues to increase in the most populous country of the world, especially on a mobile device. China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom are committed to provide the high quality service to their consumers. The three Chinese companies will leverage the services and products of Nokia, till the end of next year, in order to improve speed, capacity and reliability in their networks.

Commenting on the development, Mike Wang, President, Nokia Shanghai Bell, said, “We are excited to continue our close collaboration with these important customers in China, to drive new levels of network performance as they transition toward 5G. Leveraging the breadth of our end-to-end network and services capabilities, we will work closely with China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom to deploy technologies that meet their specific business needs.”

Agreement’s scope

According to the agreement, Finnish company will offer expertise and technologies across the country for China Mobile including core, radio access, passive optical networks, SDN, optical transport and IP routing, professional services and network management.

China Telecom will leverage Nokia’s support in improving its 4G LTE coverage and hot spot capacity across the country. Nokia will deliver its end-to-end portfolio and solutions including home CPE solutions, FDD-LTE radio access, multi-service edge routers core routers and services expertise. Both companies will also boost 5G cooperation and push 5G progress in China.

Nokia will support China Unicom to deploy technologies country-wide that include Nokia FDD-LTE radio access, virtualized IMS, Multi-access Edge Computing, SDN, optical transport and IP routing, and fixed network equipment.

With its collaboration with Nokia, China Unicom intends to improve its network quality and capacity to increase its customer base for 4G LTE, apart from researching and developing the growth of internet of things (IoT) solutions and the development of 5G, including utilising of artificial intelligence (AI) in networks.
