NEXT Biometric Fingerprint Sensors Selected for Smart Card Projects

These pilot projects are planned to begin in the first quarter of the next year and require same performance as the compulsory requirements of Aadhaar programme in India

The cutting-edge large-area biometric sensor of NEXT Biometrics, a leading provider of fingerprint sensor technology in the world, has been selected for three new pilot projects of smart card through its collaboration with Tactilis Pte Ltd, Singapore, NEXT Biometrics announced on Wednesday.

A global company has signed an agreement for the pilot projects with Tactilis, smart card partner of NEXT with the purpose of authenticating the biometric system-on-card technology concepts when installed for three different applications, which all have a potential to impact globally. These projects need smart card solutions providing multifunction capabilities, government grade biometric performance and advanced management of user credentials and data.

Accelerate biometric smart cards adoption

Commenting on the development, Ritu Favre, CEO, NEXT Biometrics, said, “These pilot projects represent new smart card applications for which our large sensors offer a unique combination of high-security and ease-of-use. We’re very pleased to see that our cooperation with Tactilis is opening new market segments that will help accelerate global adoption of biometric smart cards.”

Pilot projects to start next year

These pilot projects are planned to begin in the first quarter of next year and to be conducted in Asian region. The projects require same performance as the compulsory requirements of Aadhaar programme in India.

The large-area fingerprint sensors of NEXT Biometrics are certified for the biggest biometric programme in the world. In addition, the sensors have been qualified through a severe testing and review processes for ensuring security and compliance with real-life usage needs in India.

NEXT Biometrics is expecting to offer further information with regards to the pilot projects and unidentified global company before year-end.
