Tuesday, May 27, 2014: Power generation company ABB has reportedly started a new compact secondary substation known as Unipack-G. In addition, the company has also introduced a new retrofit program for relays, which is a part of its efforts to provide high value to the customer. According to the company, Unipack-G extends to the current Unipack CCS characteristics.
The new version of the CCS will apparently provide power ratings of up to 3,500 kVA and voltage ranges of up to 40.5 kV. It is reportedly fabricated using glass fiber reinforced polyester (GRP). Further, it is reportedly also easier to transport and position the CCS in remote areas and within extreme environments. The Unipack-G substation has been made to withstand things like cold, heat, corrosion and fire. There are already steps that have been taken in order to provide efficient cooling and natural ventilation.
The new Relay Retrofit Program on the other hand provides the company with a product life cycle management system that is much simpler. This is based on the efficient replacement of selected SPACOM protection relays that come with the latest protection and control relays provides by the Relion 615 product series.
