“IESA is committed to grow conducive eco-system for design and manufacturing of electronic products domestically.”

The India Semiconductor Association (ISA), the trade body which represents the Indian electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) and semiconductor industry, today announced their new charter at the inauguration of the 8th IESA Vision Summit 2013 in Bengaluru. The new charter will represent a broader spectrum to include not just semiconductor companies but the larger ecosystem of companies and organisations involved in the design and manufacture of electronics products.

In tandem with the new charter, the organisation will now be known as the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA)

“The semiconductor industry cannot grow unless the larger electronics industry grows. While consumption of electronic products is growing explosively in India, according to the 6th ISA F&S Report on the ESDM industry, 66 per cent of these products are imported and this number is growing. Considering this growth in consumption and imports it is critical that India takes urgent steps to bridge this gap. With the renewed focus, IESA is committed to grow conducive eco-system for design and manufacturing of electronic products domestically and take India to ESDM leadership,” said Dr Satya Gupta, chairman of the newly rebranded IESA.

“This sharpened focus on the complete ESDM value chain coincides with the very welcome change from policy makers. Given the current market opportunities, policy environment, and the urgent requirement of the country, the IESA is widening our scope from semiconductors and embedded systems to the larger electronics system design and manufacturing industry. It is but natural that the name of the association is changed to reflect this new charter and lead India towards innovation-led design and design-led manufacture,” reiterated PVG Menon, president, India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

With its new charter, the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) hopes to make India a global leader in electronics.
