Infinix Will Start Selling Fitness Bands in India by December 2018

Infinix’s plans of introducing fitness bands in India will meet tough competition from brand like Xiaomi, GOQii, Titan, Fitbit and Lenovo

Smartphone maker Infinix will start selling fitness bands in India by the end of December 2018. The company had just announced the launch of Note 5 Stylus smartphone in India.

Anish Kapoor, Infinix India CEO told PTI that the company’s focus is on bringing in a differentiated portfolio. He hinted towards Infinix Note 5 Stylus launch and quoted that the company wanted to move beyond just camera and battery size. Infinix is looking at introducing fitness band in the country by the end of December 2018.

Owned by Transsion Holdings, Infinix also said that it saw strong sales during festive season in October and November. Transsion Holdings operates itel, Tecno and Infinix brands in India.

Wearable’s market in India

Research firm IDC had earlier said that the wearable’s market in India had witnessed 66 per cent year-on-year growth. The total amount of wearable’s amounted to around one million units during June 2018 quarter.

Infinix’s plans of introducing fitness bands in India will meet tough competition from Xiaomi, GOQii, Titan, Fitbit and Lenovo. Xiaomi with its Mi Bands leads the category at 45.8 per cent share, and is followed by GOQii that has an 18.8 per cent share in the category. Titan holds 7.4 per cent wearable share while Fitbit owns 3.8 per cent and Lenovo 3 per cent.

Anish Kapoor counts India among Infinix’s top five markets. He told PTi that the brand is keen to further consolidate its presence in the Indian market. He also clarified that Infinix will not be increasing prices of smartphones in India as it is a competitive market. However, the new launches by Infinix will factor in the impact of depreciating currency value.

Infinix is counted as a strong player in markets including Indonesia, Egypt and Morocco. It also has a strong presence in Middle East and other parts of Africa.
