Thursday, August 29, 2013: As summer monsoons continue to affect the solar photovoltaic plant production, the performance data released by MNRE show a considerable amount of decrease in output for the month of July 2013.

As pert the National Solar Mission, Capacity Utilization Factors (CUF) had been commissioned for both the batches under the first phase of the mission but it is indicative that the production fell by 14.8-23.1 per cent in July. The CUF’s under Rooftop PV and Small Solar Power Generation Program (RPSSGP) too fell by 6.3-19.5 per cent.

This, however, doesn’t include the two 10 MW facilities set up in Rajasthan which were commissioned by Jakson Power Pvt. Ltd. These projects reported power outputs of 122 KWh each and it seems that they are suffering from some technical problems.

The significant decline in the NSM phase 1 and RPSSGP program is also significantly lower than the data of spring 2013. In some cases that are even lower than the March or April CUF data. Hari Manoharan from RESolve Energy Consultants says that after production touched a peak in March 2013, the statistics have dropped in the past couple of months and this could be attributed to the cloudy weather condition and the rainfall caused through south-west monsoon clouds which are now prevalent all across the country.

The best performance in this respect was given by the Mahindra Solar One Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai with a CUF of 23.07 per cent. On the other hand, the lowest performer is the one commissioned by Zamil New Delhi Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. under the RPSSGP program.
