The government is fast realizing the scope of electronics in India. As per the estimates, it is being said that the demand for electronics in India was $45 billion in 2008-09 and this figure is expected to touch $400 billion by 2020. In the latest, the state IT department has tied up with the premier trade body for Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) to devise a roadmap for the development of the ESDM industry in the state. The body is supposed to identify potential areas across Odisha for setting up hardware industries within the next six months.

An official in the IT department told Business Standard, “The department has entrusted IESA to prepare a roadmap for the development of ESDM industry in the state within six months and it is likely to start work from April. We have already got the government approval for the same.”

According to a Business Standard report, apart from IT secretary, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), Director of IIIT, Bhubaneswar, Additional Director, Software Technology Park of India, Bhubaneswar, and representatives from finance and energy departments have been taken into the committee.
