April 13, 2015: India has been designated as Chair to the Ninth Meeting of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Council which is scheduled to be held for 10th & 11th June, 2015 in Abu Dhabi.
India is a founder Member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy.
IRENA has two main governing structures; one is IRENA Assembly which takes decisions at Macro level and gives policy guidance to IRENA. Second is IRENA Council which is the main Governing Body of the Agency responsible for implementing various decisions of the Assembly.
