Ascend 910 and Ascend 310, are aimed at uses in data centers and internet-connected consumer devices, says Huawei Rotating Chairman Eric Xu.

The two new chipsets, called the Ascend 910 and Ascend 310, are aimed at uses in data centers and internet-connected consumer devices, Huawei Rotating Chairman Eric Xu said at the launch.

This new addition could be a big boost for the Chinese tech giant, which set up a cloud business unit last year in its attempt to gain a stronger foothold in the public cloud market in China that is currently dominated by Alibaba.

More powerful than its Competitors

The company claims that its 7 nanometer Ascend 910 chipset is aimed at data centers and is twice as powerful as its nearest competitor Nvidia’s v100. The chipset will be available from the second quarter of 2019.

Huawei’s  Ascend 310, a chipset for computing on smart devices, which is available right away.

The introduction of these new chipsets pits the Chinese tech giant against major chipmakers including Qualcomm,AMD and Nvidia, though Eric Xu said that they will not sell these chips to third parties and thus there is no question of direct competition between Huawei and chip vendors.

Huawei provide hardware and cloud computing service, he added.

In its effort to boost its profile in the cloud computing market, Huawei has also teamed up with Microsoft to offer Microsoft apps on Huawei Cloud.
