IDS uses high-speed power line carrier communication (HPLC) for low-voltage communication, facilitating rapid data collection and interactive connections  at a 99% data acquisition success rate.

Huawei unveiled its innovative Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS) amidst discussions on innovation and best practices in the electric power sector. Huawei’s Vice President and CEO of Electric Power Digitalization BU, David Sun, presented the IDS during his keynote address at an event.

Developed with ecosystem partners, the IDS addresses challenges in the electric power industry such as high line losses, unreliable service, and managing new energy loads. It represents a shift towards a comprehensive digital transformation in the sector, advocating for a transition from isolated digital initiatives to a holistic, open, and evolving digital infrastructure based on a cloud-pipe-edge-device architecture.

It enables secure 5G slice access and real-time load monitoring as well as Cloud-edge collaboration and intelligent analysis & decision making for group control and management of PV (Photovoltaic/ solar cells) .

Huawei proposes an on-premises private cloud to anchor the digital framework, incorporating wired and wireless backhaul network solutions and an innovative edge computing unit (ECU) that combines communication, sensory, and computational functionalities.

A key feature of the IDS is the use of next-generation high-speed power line carrier communication (HPLC) technology for low-voltage communication, which facilitates rapid data collection, supports interactive connections, and achieves a 99% data acquisition success rate.

The implementation of IDS in China has proven effective in monitoring distribution networks, tracking 10kV line conditions in real-time, and intelligently overseeing low-voltage distributed new energy sources. The solution enhances the digitalization of services and transparency across power transformer districts, with successful preliminary implementations in countries outside China.
