Adding that using various technologies will be one step towards a full battery EV, he further said that Honda has its EV technology and can soon introduce it in India. The Japanese automaker plans on expanding its business in small towns as well, since these areas can yield a stronger demand for these vehicles in the future.

Honda’s plan to expand to tier 2-3 towns

There are around 353 touchpoints of Honda in India and the automaker’s aim is to increase it by targeting the Tier 3 markets. Honda sales are mostly concentrated in the tier 1 cities. However, it has plans to consider the tier 2, 3 towns too. Currently, the company is in the stage of identifying the locations for the purpose.

Honda has been operating in India since January 1998. This year it reached a milestone of 1.5 million sales in the month of August. It has been reported that it is growing by 9 per cent industry rate.

The government of India has been stressing on the electric vehicles to cut down on emissions and reduce the pollution levels. To bring in the environment-friendly service, it has also been pushing for biofuels, ethanol and methanol fuels. Auto giants are now eyeing the Indian market to contribute to the electric vehicles segment.

Various auto companies have planned to venture into the electric vehicles industry. Mahindra & Mahindra, Suzuki-Toyota alliance are some of the names.
