According to a report by the Economic Times, Honda is gearing up to launch electric scooters in India. The report said that it will ship one from China soon to start feasibility studies.

Recently, TVS Motor Company launched its first electric scooter iQube. It has priced it at Rs 1.15 lakh. Bajaj had launched its electric Chetak recently too. It has priced it at Rs 1-1.15 lakh in Pune and Bengaluru.

Feasibility survey by getting an existing scooter from China

The report said that Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice-president (marketing and sales) at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said that as far as electric vehicles are concerned, the company will soon start its feasibility survey by getting an existing scooter from China. He added that it may take a year or so to complete the feasibility study. He did not specify which model the company will use to test locally. Honda had showcased a lithium electric scooter, VGO in Shanghai.

Understand Indian customer requirements

According to the report, Guleria added that HMSI plans to understand Indian customer requirements in vehicle performance and infrastructure with the help of the feasibility study. He stated that these factors will be evaluated in the feasibility survey. Based on the results, the company will announce its next direction on EV.
