Wednesday, February 12, 2014: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released a count of grid-tied solar electric capacity of the country by state listings, as of 31 January, 2014. The listings show that the state of Gujarat at the top spot with 860 MW of power share out of the country’s 2,208 MW, of the total installed capacity.
Gujarat nailed the top spot with more than one-third share of the entire installed capacities. The state of Rajasthan listed second with 667MW. The two states together compensate for more than two-third of the market as on date. Both the high ranking states have superior natural conditions for PV and CSP. Gujarat’s solar industry has also benefited from an effective policy environment, including a feed-in tariff with no domestic content requirement.
Maharashtra came third in the ranking, with 237MW, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 195MW and Andhra Pradesh with 92MW solar capacities. However, no other Indian state installed more than 32MW of solar photovoltaics and concentrating solar power. The PV represented the majority in all capacity of all the states.
MNRE put three states with less than 1MW of solar capacity. The state of Kerala has a share of just 25KW, even so, the state aims at 500MW solar capacity by the 2017.
