Monday, October 27, 2014: Gujarat government has suggested to set up ‘Gujarat Electronics Mission’ under the new draft Electronics Policy (2014-19) in order to attract investment for the manufacturing of electronics products. The mission will identify new Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) and set up the same across the world to attract investments to the state in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.
The new Electronic Policy draft has proposed a series of sops for new as well as existing units like VAT (value added tax) will be fully exempted on manufactured and sold products in Gujarat for first five years, micro enterprises will need to submit 7 per cent interest subsidy for five years, while the same subsidy will be set at 5 per cent for small and medium enterprises and 2 per cent for large industries, which have invested up to Rs 1,000 million. State government officials say that the Electronic Mission will be set up by the Science and Technology department and they will also implement the Electronics Policy (2014-19).
The Electronics Mission will also try to attract design companies in the ESDM sector in Gujarat and set up incubation centres for start-ups. Gujarat is set to become a “globally-recognized hub for the ESDM industry. Slab-based power tariff subsidy will also be provided to electronics hardware manufacturing mega projects for five initial years. The Gujarat state government aims to set up minimum four greenfield and two brown EMCs in next five years.
