In 2019, nearly 60 per cent volume share of the market is estimated to be collectively held by optical light sources and optical power & loss meters

On the back of constant deployment of fiber into the networks by cable operators, the sale of fiber optic test equipment is estimated to grow at a rate of 5.6 per cent in 2019, according to a latest report by Future Market Insights.

In 2018, fiber optic test equipment sale crossed 1.2 million units as the equipment have gained vital importance in recent years, the report says.

The fiber optic test equipment market will likely to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 6 per cent through 2027, in terms of volume, it adds.

There has been a constant search for equipment that are simple to operate, irrespective of the intensity of exposure of cable deployment crews to optical networking.

Evolution in the design and development of these equipment continues in accordance with the complicating test issues related with advancements in optical networks.

Automation is essential

In addition, automation continues to be essential for fiber optic test equipment market vendors to combat the increasing complexity in optical evaluation. Automation remains a major execution and deployment enabler for technicians, with their application spreading to both procedure documentation and results.

These vendors are adopting modular designs to support interface flexibility, as these designs enable downloading software into the instruments, to perform tests better from remote sources in cloud-based deployments. In addition, the vendors are focusing on simplifying the operations for cable operators, by providing system-integrated lower-level test capabilities.

Vendors in the fiber optic test equipment market have introduced several instruments including optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), optical light sources and optical power & loss meters, etc.

In 2019, nearly 60 per cent volume share of the market is estimated to be collectively held by optical light sources and optical power & loss meters, the report says.

On the other hand, OTDRs will record a relatively higher demand growth as major components that are related to calibration standards and cost-effective for outside plant (OSP), it adds.
