According to a report by the Economic Times, Ericsson said that it will set up a new R&D site in France by early 2020. It will hire 300 employees to drive 5G progress across Europe.

In an official statement, the company said that it will initially focus on 5G software development and security. It will benefit the global 5G ecosystem and leverage the company’s collaboration with French customers said the statement. It also said that the initiative will help to provide access to a competence pool and nurture industry and academic collaborations.
15,000 engineers in Europe
Ericsson presently employs 15,000 engineers in Europe. It forms 60 per cent of its total R&D staff and has has 18 R&D centres in Europe. These centres are located in Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden.
The report said that Fredrik Jejdling, executive vice president and head of networks, Ericsson said that the company recognises the economic and technological importance of the French market and the country’s influence in Europe. He added that this initiative will help to strengthen Ericsson’s 5G software portfolio which includes security capabilities, especially for the French and European markets. It will also support the focus on Europe and bring the latest innovations to the customers.
