Element14 Adds Abracon’s EDLC Supercapacitors For Various Sectors

Farnell now offers ultra-fast supercapacitors featuring advanced dual-layer technology.

Element14 has announced the addition of Abracon’s high-power electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) radial supercapacitors to its inventory. Abracon is known for its cutting-edge electronic components, including frequency control, timing, power, magnetics, RF, and antenna solutions. Euan Gilligan, Element14’s Product Segment Leader for Abracon, expressed enthusiasm about the new stock, stating, “We are excited to offer these EDLC radial supercapacitors, designed to meet the growing demand for quick-charging, high-capacity energy storage solutions. They are crucial for various sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.”

The EDLC supercapacitors stand out for their efficiency and compactness, providing excellent energy density. Available in 2.7-volt and 3.0-volt variants, they are ideal for applications requiring swift power bursts due to their rapid charge and discharge capabilities. Additionally, these supercapacitors boast a long lifecycle, reducing maintenance costs and increasing system longevity. They also address operational safety concerns often associated with lithium batteries.

With their ability to operate across a wide temperature range, including down to -40°C, they are suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions, unlike traditional batteries. Gilligan further noted, “These supercapacitors are perfect for uninterrupted and backup power supplies, micro energy storage, data transmission, energy start-up designs, wireless networks, energy harvesting, cold-crack engines, microgrids, and more.” Abracon provides an online selection tool to help developers choose the right supercapacitor based on type, current, tolerance, and other criteria. Abracon’s EDLC radial supercapacitors are available for online ordering from Farnell in the EMEA region, Element14 in the APAC region, and Newark in North America.
