The Digital Communications Commission ( DCC) has approved a Rs 5.22 lakh crore spectrum auction plan entailing 8300 MHz of airwaves. It will work across 22 circles and the sale is likely to take place in March-April of 2020.
Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash told reporters that the DCC has approved the recommendation of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). He added that the he was hopeful that the auction will be conducted in March-April. He also said that the reserve price of the entire 8300 MHz of spectrum came to Rs 5,22,850 crore.
Demand for data is growing
Prakash further added that the is hopeful that there will be healthy participation as demand for data is growing. He further stated that telecom operators need spectrum to further expand their network.
Previously, telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had informed Parliament that 275 MHz of radiowaves frequency between 3,300-3,400 MHz and 3,425-3,600 MHz band is available for 5G auction.
