DanfossMonday, September 08, 2014: A leading provider of climate and energy solutions, Danfoss India, has entered an agreement with VIT to set up an Advanced Drives Laboratory. This lab will provide electric drives to benefit academic causes of under-graduate and post-graduate students at VIT.

This agreement has been signed aiming at encouraging innovative thinking at the college level. Danfoss India president Ravichandran Purushothaman said power electronics and drives are essential in modern industrial and HVAC applications (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). Industries face lots of challenges and that’s why it has been necessary to build engineers who have relevant knowledge of the industry and who are skilled and competent enough with electric drives.

Purushothaman said, “Hence we have decided to set up Advanced Drives Laboratory in VIT to help students get hands-on learning.” The Advanced Drives Laboratory will be home to electric drives including induction motor, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and synchronous reluctance motor drives. These drives will help in PHD research and joint research projects too. Students, who belong to electrical and electronics engineering, power electronics and drives, communication engineering and power systems, will benefit a lot from this lab facility which will be an integral part of their curriculum.
