Thursday, May 22, 2014: Gurgaon’s prime R&D hub for solar technology will now become the information centre for general public. According to some online reports, the Ministry for Renewable Energy has plans to set up an ‘information centre’, which will act as a public awareness wing at the National Institute of Solar Energy’s research facility, located near Gwal Pahadi.
The upcoming information centre will work on popularising the advances made in the field of solar power. If sources quoted in a TOI report are to be believed, the centre will be inaugurated in a month’s time. The move comes with the idea of making topics related to alternative energy a part of the general discourse.
The TOI report quoted Charu Jain, the director of Advit Foundation, saying, “The ministry wants us to get more people to that facility, so that the visitors can see for themselves how solar power is being made use of and how it works.”
The information centre will also work to organise visits and exhibition tours to the solar facility. Jain said, “The idea is to give people an opportunity to see how a 1 MW solar plant looks like and how it functions. Besides this, we will also be hosting practical sessions and training programmes for students.” The government also plans to organise special workshops for industry representatives on solar technology.
