At a meeting last year in June with industry representatives , the NITI Aayog had asked the industry to come back within two weeks with solid steps towards the transition.

As per the report, the manufacturers had stated that they needed a minimum of four months to work to work on this. The report also said that Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor, and Honda have opposed NITI Aayog’s plan to go for 100 per cent electric vehicles by banning conventional two- and three-wheelers.

Migration to EVs needs to be planned properly

As per the report, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has also stated that the migration to EVs needs to be planned properly. This has to be done to ensure that the entire ecosystem is ready through a multi-year road map.
