Ather Energy establishes a Rs 2,000 crore electric scooter plant at AURIC, Maharashtra, producing one million units annually.

The state government’s announcement on Wednesday brought with it a wave of optimism. Ather Energy’s plan to establish a Rs 2,000 crore electric scooter manufacturing plant at Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) in central Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district is not just about production. It’s about creating opportunities. The plant, as per Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will not only produce up to one million units of vehicles and battery packs annually but also pave the way for around 4,000 new jobs, breathing new life into the local community.

“I just got done with a meeting with the Founder of Ather Energy, Swapnil Jain, and I am glad to share that he informed me about their great decision that Ather Energy, the leading electric scooter manufacturer, has chosen Maharashtra for its 3rd manufacturing facility in Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC),” Fadnavis states.
This development is not just about Maharashtra. It’s about India’s industrial growth. Maharashtra’s supportive business environment and robust electric vehicle manufacturing policies, as highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, are in perfect sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the country’s industrial growth. This alignment underscores the national significance of Maharashtra’s role in the automotive innovation landscape, with the Marathwada region poised to lead the state’s growth story.
With the Samruddhi Expressway providing effective connectivity, investors are increasingly seeing the region’s potential, Fadnavis notes. Ather Energy’s establishment of this new facility highlights Maharashtra’s strategic importance in the electric vehicle sector and reinforces the state’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for industrial development.
The Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP government in Maharashtra is criticized by the opposition for failing to attract investment and allowing some big-ticket projects to go to Gujarat. However, the announcement of Ather Energy’s new plant is a positive development ahead of the assembly elections due in Maharashtra in October.
Ather Energy’s decision to set up its third manufacturing facility in Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) reflects the company’s confidence in Maharashtra’s business climate and infrastructure. The new plant boosts local employment and supports the broader goal of enhancing India’s electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities. This move aligns with the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions. It reinforces the importance of regional connectivity and supportive government policies in attracting significant investments in the electric vehicle industry. Moreover, it is expected to bring about positive changes in the local community, such as improved infrastructure and increased economic activity.
