The AP government has decided to change its IT and electronics policy after it failed to get the desired response to the existing policy, which was framed only two years ago.
The IT policy introduced in 2014 aimed at attracting an investment of Rs 40,000 crore and creating four lakh jobs by 2020. However, the government did not get any major investment in the last two years.
The new policy will address the gaps in the existing policy.Srinivas Murty, chief executive officer opined that the electronics industry is still at a nascent stage. The sector thrives upon good infrastructure. We will make changes in the policy to attract more contract manufacturing electronics companies into our market.
At present, there are separate policies for IT-electronics and Internet of things. As part of the proposed changes, officials are planning to merge these policies into a single one.The government had also formulated a policy for designated technology parks (DTP) where the owners of buildings with a built-up area of 20,000 sft can apply for status of designated technology parks.
This policy is also proposed to be included in the new policy.
