The agreement will include IP for advanced technologies like PCI Express 7.0, 112G and 224G Ethernet, and the latest UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) standard. These technologies enable the development of next-gen system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

The IPs will aim at reducing design risks and improving the success of high-performance silicon and next-generation chiplets, according to the company’s statement. The chiplets are intended for various sectors such as AI, HPC, data networking, autonomous vehicles, and SSD storage.

The recent expansion of this partnership introduces additional advanced IP customised for computing and network connectivity. This collaboration encompasses Samsung’s advanced SF5 (5nm), SF4 (4nm), and SF2 (2nm) processes, ensuring alignment with the latest technology.

Alphawave Semi’s CTO, Tony Chan Carusone, emphasised that deepening their partnership with Samsung Foundry is a ‘significant step’ in their goal to shape the future of fast connectivity. He said, “This partnership leverages both Alphawave Semi’s leading-edge IP portfolio and Samsung’s manufacturing prowess to meet the fast-growing demands of high-performance computing and networking.”

Jongshin Shin, Corporate EVP of foundry IP development at Samsung Foundry, mentioned that they aim to combine Alphawave Semi’s advanced IP technologies with Samsung’s semiconductor processes to set new standards for fast connectivity and high-performance computing, supporting the advancement of AI systems and network solutions.

Alphawave Semi, founded in 2017, focuses on high-speed connectivity and compute silicon for global technology infrastructure. It aims to meet the demand for faster data transfer with superior performance and energy efficiency.
