Algeria’s Solar Power Project Achieves 73 Bids

Algeria has attracted 73 bids from domestic and international for 15 solar power projects with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW).

Sonelgaz, the government-owned electricity and gas distribution company, managed the competitive bidding process for establishing 15 solar power facilities spread across 12 provinces. The initial pool of contenders, comprising 90 companies, was subsequently narrowed down to 73.

This extensive project entails the creation of 15 solar power plants, collectively boasting a total capacity of 2,000 MW. These solar installations will have varying capacities, ranging from 80 MW to 220 MW each.

To be eligible as foreign winners, bidders must meet certain conditions, including a minimum of 35% national participation. This involvement may encompass the provision of essential components such as solar panels, cables, generators, and other necessary equipment.

In a recent development, Sonelgez, the state-run utility company of Algeria, has initiated a competitive process for the development and construction of these 15 solar power plants, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy goals.
