  • Delhi govt. also signs pacts with JBM Auto and PMI Electro Mobility, adding 1,040 9-meter electric buses to its fleet
  • In August this year, the central government initiated the PM e-bus sewa scheme, targeting 10,000 electric buses in 169 Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities

The Delhi government has forged an alliance with Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, a company within the Hinduja Group. This collaboration marks a significant stride toward eco-conscious mobility solutions.

The procurement of 950 low-floor electric buses is a testament to Delhi’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while providing efficient and comfortable transportation services to its residents.

Delhi’s new electric buses will be equipped with cutting-edge features, including CCTV cameras to bolster passenger security, panic buttons for immediate assistance, and GPS devices for precise tracking.

These enhancements not only elevate the passenger experience but also underscore Delhi’s dedication to creating a safer and smarter urban transport ecosystem.

Furthermore, this initiative is a crucial component of a broader vision for India’s public transportation system. The Delhi government has additionally entered into agreements with JBM Auto and PMI Electro Mobility for the deployment of an additional 1,040 9-meter electric buses.

In August of this year, the central government launched the PM e-bus sewa scheme, an initiative aimed at deploying 10,000 electric buses across 169 Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

This program, structured as a public-private partnership (PPP), is projected to incur a total cost of INR 57,613 crore, with INR 20,000 crore in funding provided by the central government, while the remainder is to be shared by the states.

Delhi’s strategic move aligns perfectly with this broader national mission, positioning the city at the forefront of India’s green transportation revolution.
