WIN said the new facility will expand its manufacturing footprint for aerospace applications to 300,000 square feet across India, US and Israel

Bengaluru-based Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN)’s aerospace unit has opened its second facility at the Aerospace Special Economic Zone located near the Bengaluru International Airport to manufacture precision parts for aerospace applications.

The unit, spanning across 25,000 square feet, will be situated adjacent to the company’s existing unit. While the first unit manufactures landing gear components and hydraulic actuators, the new unit will manufacture aerospace-grade parts requiring surface treatments and metal platings.

Pratik Kumar, CEO at Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, said, “Once we obtain all the customer qualifications, this facility will not only support our own internal requirements but will also support the needs of other aerospace components and system players in this region.”

“Availability of surface treatment capability and capacity is one of the key drivers to scale up aerospace manufacturing in India,” he added.

WIN said the new facility will expand its manufacturing footprint for aerospace applications to 300,000 square feet across India, US and Israel, including the recent acquisition of the manufacturing facility of Boeing Supplier TECT Aerospace’s Washington unit.

WIN said that in the first phase, the new plant will cater to special processes required for manufacturing actuators and landing gear parts, including passivation, titanium etching, nital etching, chrome plating, cadmium plating and zinc-nickel plating.

It added that the plant is also expected to get National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap) certification by December or January, followed by customer certifications in the first quarter of FY23.
