Raja Manickam, the founder of Tessolve Semiconductors, has already joined Tata as CEO of its OSAT unit
Tata Group seems to have taken another step towards foraying into semiconductor business in India. The group has now appointed Dr Randhir Thakur as director. Dr Thakur’s Linkedin Profile says he is currently associated with Intel as Chief Supply Chain Officer.
However, a report by Mint notes that the Tata Group has appointed him as director. There is no surety on when or how soon is Dr Thakur going to join the Tata Group.
Dr Thakur has previously worked with the likes of Applied Materials, SanDisk and Marvell Semiconductor. It is worth noting here that supply chain is said to be one of the important aspects of semiconductor business.
Raja Manickam as CEO
Raja Manickam, the founder of Tessolve Semiconductors, has already joined Tata as CEO of its OSAT unit. Manickam is known to be the brains behind Tessolve Semiconductors. He had founded the same in the year 2003. It was in 2016 that the company was acquired by Hero Electronix.
Tata’s Chairman N Chandrasekaran had recently noted that Tata Group is looking to make a foray into semiconductor manufacturing. With the market opportunity of high-tech manufacturing of electronics at $1 trillion, Chandrasekaran said Tata Group has already set up a business to seize the opportunity.
Chandrasekaran, who took over the group chairmanship after leading its IT arm TCS, said there is a need to adopt artificial intelligence, cloud and data more aggressively, and Tata Group considers this as a top priority.
