Solar Power Producer Azure Power Has a New COO

Azure Power Global Limited, a solar power producer in India, announced that Harkanwal Singh Wadhwa, has resigned from his position as member of the Board of Directors of Azure Power and all its subsidiaries effective 31 March 2020. He also resigned from his position as chief operating officer (COO).

“HS Wadhwa has been with Azure Power since the initial stages of the company and been instrumental in establishing the company as the leader in Indian solar industry. We want to thank him for his leadership and contributions to the company and wish him well in his future endeavours. At the same time, we heartily congratulate Murali on his new position as the chief operating officer and look forward to his expanded operational guidance and leadership,” states Ranjit Gupta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Azure Power.

Murali Subramanian is the new COO

Azure Power informed that HS Wadhwa will be discharged from all his roles and responsibilities in the company effective third April 2020. Murali Subramanian, president of the company, will take over as the new COO effective 04 April 2020.

“HS Wadhwa’s decision to resign was not the result of any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices,” read Azure Power’s official statement.

Subramanian had joined Azure Power in July 2019 as president and has been overlooking project operations and Infra division for the company. Azure Power was founded by Inderpreet Wadhwa in 2008. The company has a portfolio of solar power assets in 24 Indian states.

Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), a global institutional investor, had recently acquired an additional 717,701 shares from a shareholder of Azure Power. After acquiring the additional shares, CDPQ is the direct owner of 24,259,272 shares of AZRE, which represent 50.9 per cent of the outstanding shares of Azure Power Global Limited.
