India’s solar power industry would like the government to offer tax incentives as well as financial aid for making ‘solar’ an attractive and viable option much before the announcement of the Union Budget. The government is planning to deploy 175 GW of renewable power capacities by 2022 which includes 100 GW of solar.
As per MD & CEO, Sanjeev Aggarwal from Amplus Solar, the extending of tax holidays, waiving of electricity duty and banking charges for solar rooftops along with activation of REC benefits for rooftop projects and captive projects, will certainly boost the setting up of more number of rooftop installations in cities and towns.
He also stressed to PTI, that the industry corridors are brimming with talks regarding the different sops offered by the government for improving the power situation in India. India currently needs to create an efficient ecosystem for enhancing solar power generation capacity throughout the country. Net metering guidelines need to be enforced across states as well as renewable purchase obligations, enhancing grid infrastructure for taking care of intermittent solar power as well as promotion of storage solutions through incentives, subsidies, etc.
He also added that it is still a matter of concern whether the discoms can be banked upon and moving forth it will be essential for the state and the government to hold targeted studies for assessing boosting of grid infrastructure for accommodating intermittent solar power as well as banking of power.
