Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC), which plays an effective role in the development of energy sector, announced that it has issued an order governing implementation of Rajasthan government order to reduce transmission charges for inter-state open access solar projects in Rajasthan by 50 per cent.
Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA) had filed a petition to RERC and this was done positively to increase state’s attractiveness as an upcoming solar export hub.
RSA represents project developers, EPC contractors, manufacturers and other service providers. The association aims to facilitate solar industry growth in the state by identifying key challenges and work for timely resolution of these challenges.
With the implementation of this order, government of Rajasthan has already attained the visionary target of 25000 MW of solar capacity.
RREC also made an announcement to introduce a new land mark solar policy ‘Rajasthan Solar Policy 2014’ wherein incentives were provided to developers to encourage them to set-up solar plants in Rajasthan. State government led by Vasundhara Raje had also issued a directive to reduce transmission charges for open access projects by 50 per cent earlier this year.
Suman Kumar, president, Rajasthan Solar Association said in an official release, “The move will tremendously increase state’s attractiveness as potential solar export hub by bringing an investment of about 1750 billion and creating over 75,000 jobs.”
Rajeshwar Rajpurohit, secretary, RSA commented, “Rajasthan has huge potential for solar power due to availability of solar insolation and large land and truly has potential to be the first green state of the country by supplying solar energy to these power hungry states with the operationalisation of current order.”
