Mr Anil Agarwal, the owner of Twinstar Display Technologies has entered into an agreement with Maharashtra government for setting up of LCD manufacturing unit in Maharashtra. The total investment would amount to $10 billion and it will be done over five phases.
The deal took place at the inaugural day of the ‘Make in India’ event in the presence of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has also entered into MoUs with Raymond, Coca Cola as well as Jain Irrigation.
Mr Agarwal said “”We have made good of the promise we made to the nation during the Digital India Summit in July 2015. We are happy to participate in two of the government’s key initiatives – Make in India campaign as well as Net Zero Electronics import by 2020. We will endeavour to make India a significant export hub of display units with the setting up of Panel FAB.”
Maharashtra has also entered into an MoU with Raymond for setting up a unit in Nandgoan Textile Park with an investment of Rs 1,400 crore. The procurement of cotton will be done from the farmers in the district and Vidarbha region. It has also signed MoUs with Coca Cola and Jain Irrigation for setting up a unit for making juice. This will support to farmers who are cultivating oranges in Vidarbha. This project should be of benefit to 5,000 farmers with an average landholding of two acres each.
