Haryana has got approval from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the setting up of an ultra mega solar power project which will be in line with the Indian Government’s plan for setting  up 20 GW of large-scale solar power parks.
The 500 MW solar power project will be set up in the northern state of Haryana. In this respect, the ministry has requested the Haryana Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) for the preparation of a detailed project report. Once they have the report, the final formalities relating to tendering and implementation will take place.
India is aiming for 100 GW of operational solar power capacity by March 2022. This will include the 20 GW from large scale solar power projects in several states. Within this programme, the state agencies will have to make sure regarding the availability of land and grid connectivity while the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) is going to oversee the tendering process for the independent projects which will make up the large-scale solar power parks.
These solar power parks are going to be essential for the states for increasing the share of solar power in the overall electricity consumption (apart from hydro power projects) to almost 8 per cent by March 2022. Haryana is targeting for the installation of 4.2 GW of solar power capacity by March 2022.
