Taiwanese electronic manufacturing services (EMS) behemoth is all set to manufacture iPhone in the country. According to ET Now, Foxconn officials are in talks with the government of India to set up a manufacturing unit to make iPhones in the India. If that happens, the next iPhone that you may buy could well be made in India. This will be a big success for the government’s ‘Make in India’ programme as Apple is eyeing India as its next big smartphone destination. Apple global sales of iPhones have taken a dip in the last quarter, where as in India the company has grown by more than 50 per cent in the same period.
The $10-billion facility will be located in Maharashtra, India. The company is said to be looking for a 1,200 acre of land for the facility.
There were several other states which were in the picture to grasp the deal, but it has been known now that Maharashtra will get the manufacturing unit. The company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to set up an electronics manufacturing facility.
