Telecom operators awaiting approval form DoT for 5G field trials

Gear vendors and telecom operators are currently awaiting clarity over the allocation of free spectrum for 5G field trials. They have been demanding for allocation of free spectrum for at least a year instead of the present 90-days limit.

Meanwhile, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said that as many countries are raising security concerns over the use of communications equipment from Chinese vendors, India will also do will do a “carefully” study on the issue before taking a final decision.

It may be noted here that Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have already submitted a joint proposal with vendors like Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia to conduct 5G field trials in India.
