The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had last month approved the second phase of grid-connected rooftop solar program with central financial support of Rs 11,814 crore to achieve a cumulative capacity of 40 GW by 2022.

Solar power developer CleanMax Solar has installed a rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 736 kilowatt (KW) in Mandoli Jail in Delhi.

The project is part of the company’s 2.5-megawatt contract with Delhi government’s power generation arm Indraprastha Power, ET reported.

CleanMax Solar said that the plant will help save Rs 51.5 lakh per annum for the jail and reduce carbon dioxide emission of 1,618 tonnes annually.

The company will provide solar power to Mandoli jail complex through the ‘Pay-as-you-go’ or OPEX model at a tariff of about 50 per cent cheaper than the existing grid electricity tariff, it added.
