No final date to start the trial has been announced, but Nokia says it is ready with the solution for trial

Bharti Airtel, India’s second largest telco, will be conducting trial of Nokia’s homogeneous front-haul solution which can support 4G and 5G services, the Finnish telecom gear maker has announced.

Front-haul equipment are installed between antenna, which receives signals, and base band unit, which processes and directs communication in telecom network.

Modernization of this part of the transport network is essential to deliver high-speed and low latency of 5G services, Nokia’s India Market Head Sanjay Malik said in a statement.

Nokia’s converged front-haul transport solution helps bring down fibre requirement through multi-channel bi-directional transmission on a single fibre.

No final date to start the trial has been decided, but the company said it is ready with the solution for trial.

An effort to make Airtel’s network future ready

Nokia said that a solution under this trial has the potential to improve the performance of Airtel’s existing network even as it prepares the network for 5G and to meet future demand.

The trail is also part of Bharti Airtel’s strategy to make its network future ready to meet the growing demand for high speed data in India.

“The upgrade of the transport network is also essential to cater to the booming consumption of mobile broadband services and enable world-class digital services. Nokia is our longstanding partner and we look forward to their support in our journey towards 5G,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel.
