Mahindra Electric to Supply EV Powertrains to Ssangyong Motors, Other Global Partners

The company is currently setting up a state-of-the-art global R&D centre in Bangaluru for battery, motors, power electronics with investments of up to Rs 400 crore.

Mahindra Electric, a part of the Mahindra Group, will start supplying electric vehicle powertrains to group firm Ssangyong Motors by early 2021.

Mahindra Electric CEO Mahesh Babu said that the company is also in talks with a few global partners for the supply of such electric vehicle parts.

South Korea-based automobile manufacturer Ssangyong Motors is also a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.

Company investing Rs 1,000 crore to boost its manufacturing capacity

Recently, Mahindra Electric had announced an investment of Rs 1000 crore in the next three years, for increasing its manufacturing capacity to 70,000 units from the current 15,000 units.

The company is currently setting up a state-of-the-art global R&D centre in Bangaluru for battery, motors, power electronics with investments of up to Rs 400 crore. According to Mahesh Babu, it would be operational in the next 18-20 months.

Mahindra is also working with Ford for the development of an electric vehicle which will be based on Ford’s platform.
