Groupe PSA will manufacture vehicles and engines in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Groupe PSA will bring electric vehicles under Ambassador brand in India. While the iconic brand, in an all new avatar, will be introduced in India post 2022, there is not much clarity about the infrastructure related to its sales and distribution, reported Car and Bike.
The report also mentions that a compact SUV or crossover car might initially be launched under Ambassador brand and this would be followed by the introduction of a hatchback.
Culmination of the plan
Groupe PSA had announced in February 2019 that it will introduce Citroen brand in India, with the first vehicle expected to be launched here before the end of 2021.
However, at that time the company had not revealed the Citroen model to be driven into India. During the presentation of FY2018 financial results, the decision to bring Citroen to India was taken by Groupe PSA’s Chairman of Managing Board Carlos Tavares.
Citroen C5 Aircross will challenge the likes of Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass upon its launch in India. Citroen had sold over 1.04 million vehicles in more than 90 markets worldwide in 2018.
Groupe PSA had announced the India project as part of the “Push to Pass” plan. This was launched at the beginning of 2017 with the signing of two joint venture agreements with CK Birla Group. The period from 2019 to 2021 will see the second phase of the plan.
Groupe PSA will manufacture vehicles and engines in the state of Tamil Nadu. In late 2018, Groupe PSA and CK Birla Group had inaugurated the powertrain JV greenfield facility at Hosur.
