India’s manufacturing sector is set for a giant leap forward with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost industry’s output. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. The booming solar energy sector has now become a far more attractive energy option with many project developers from across the globe venturing into India.

The mushrooming production facilities will help boost the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT), through-hole machines, etc.

The Videocon Group plans to invest Rs 2 billion in Kerala to set up a state of the art electronics manufacturing unit. The electronics complex will manufacture consumer electronics products and the facility will provide employment to about 1000 people, in addition to the 1000 who are already employed by the company in Kerala.

Bharat Dynamics Limited

Defence equipment

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), along with four defence organisations, plans to set up nine missile units in Andhra Pradesh with an outlay of Rs 70 billion. Once these units are completed, they will provide direct employment to 10,000 youth while another 25,000 will be provided indirect employment. Each of these organisations will be setting up a particular number of units—BDL (three), Bharat Electronics Limited (three), Electronics Corporation of India Limited (two) and Mishra Dhatu Nigam (one).

Xilinx India

Solutions offered:
IC design, IP development, software development, and systems and applications development

Xilinx has recently expanded its R&D and technical support site in Hyderabad. The 12170.298 sq m office building is more than double the size of the previous site. It accommodates engineering labs and collaboration space for end to end product development, a larger and more energy efficient data centre, and expanded facilities for customer and employee events.

Groupe Cahors

Solutions offered:
Innovative solutions in distribution of electrical equipment

France based manufacturing company, Groupe Cahors has set up a manufacturing facility for its Indian group companies—Transfix India and Tek Components, in Ranjangaon MIDC, Pune. It will manufacture connectors and associated equipment for telecom networks. The company has invested Rs 350 million to construct the factory in Ranjangaon, which brings the group’s total investment in India to Rs 600 million.

An aerospace SEZ promoted by the Karnataka government Karnataka government plans to set up an aerospace park in Bengaluru with an investment of Rs 48.46 billion from 54 companies. Till now, the government has allotted 218 acres to 25 companies at the SEZ. The major investors at the SEZ include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Dynamatic Technologies, Jupiter Aviation Logistics, BEML Limited, Mahindra Aerospace Pvt Ltd, European Aeronautics Defence and Space Company, Sobha Aviation and Engineering Services, Tyco Electronics Corporation India, AMADA (India) Pvt Ltd, Wipro Ltd, among others.
