New manufacturing facilities in India

India’s manufacturing sector is set for a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing output. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. The booming solar energy sector has now become a far more attractive energy option with many project developers from across the globe venturing into India.

The mushrooming production facilities will help boost the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT) and through-hole machines, etc.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd

Design, production and upgradation of avionics systems

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) inaugurated its new strategic electronics factory for advanced avionics in November 2012. The production facility, which is fully operational, is located at Kasaragod in Kerala, and will be manufacturing airborne special purpose computers including mission computers, display processors and radar computers. The first phase of the factory has been constructed at a cost of Rs 600 million and work on the second phase will begin soon. HAL will soon start a facility to manufacture war equipment at Seethangoli, Kerala.

Lapp India

Manufactures:
Cables, connectors, cable glands, conduits and accessories

Lapp India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Lapp Group, which is based in Germany, has set up a plant in Bhopal. With an initial investment of Rs 500 million, the company has completed phase 1 of its planned construction. A total of Rs 1500 million will be invested to set up this 4-phased cable manufacturing plant. Phase 1 of the plant will produce 1000 km of single core cables daily, catering mainly to the building cable segment (BCS).

Vikram Solar

Manufactures:
Solar PV modules

Vikram Solar is installing a 100 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar power facility at the Cochin International Airport in Kerala. The estimated energy produced by this solar facility will be 148 MW per year with a capacity of 100 kWp. The solar power facility will consist of mounted solar panels, which will generate DC electric power. The electric power generated by the solar panels will not be fed directly into the utility grid.

Welspun Renewables Energy Ltd

Welspun Renewables Energy Ltd will construct a 100 MW solar plant in Chhattisgarh. With Rs 10 billion, the company will partly fund the project along with the state government approving it and helping it in acquiring land.

Philips Electronics India

Manufactures:
Healthcare, lighting and consumer and lifestyle products

Philips Electronics India has started operations at its manufacturing unit at Chakan in Pune. This plant will roll out a range of diagnostic imaging and medical devices, designed and developed for India. Alpha X-ray Technologies (India) and Meditronics (India), two subsidiaries of Philips, will roll out new products at Chakan.
